Description
Excavated from the Suo-gang archaeological site in Penghu, this artifact dates to the Middle Neolithic period. Small in size, it features a slender, elongated bottle shape with a flattened profile. It has been meticulously polished and bears a damaged perforation at the top, indicating its decorative function. However, the Penghu Islands are not a source of jadeite. It has thus been speculated that this artifact was circulated from the Shoufeng area of Hualien on Taiwan’s main island through trade or exchange. This finding holds significant importance for understanding regional interactions between prehistoric settlements in Penghu and surrounding communities.
