The Yunnan province of China was a major source of silver, and supplied silver to the rulers in the Central Plain beginning in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Many ethnic minorities in the southwest also used the local silver source to make ornaments and vessels. This silver water bowl was collected during fieldwork among the Dai people in 1934-1935.
