Description

This reddish-brown sand-tempered vase features a wide mouth, collared neck, and rounded body. The foot ring is lost, with only residual attachment marks visible. Wheel-turning marks are discernible inside the mouth. The rim and neck are adorned with bands of 3 to 6 parallel straight lines, with sets of 3 wider scraped lines between the bands on the neck. The material is of the predominant ceramic type found at the Shih-san-hang (Shihsanhang) archaeological site. Both technique and embellishment are highly distinctive, representing a rare example within prehistoric culture in Taiwan.
